This work deals with the study of problems involved in the bedding in of a motorcycle’s brake system used in race competition. The bedding in phase is of great importance to reach the system’s maximum performance and, despite this, at present it is entrusted to the rider’s ability, with results that are not always optimal and easily repeatable. There is therefore a need for standard practice that can only be achieved with a test bench capable of replicating the road test cycles suitably tuned for specific friction pairs. A device taking account of the requirements of small weight and compact sizes in order to allow for its transport and use at competition sites was designed. Another aspect that was considered is the study of brake pad wear, for which the Archard wear model was adopted in the FEM analysis. This type of analysis allows a predictive approach and if appropriately compared with the irreplaceable road tests can also give the possibility of designing the appropriate number of bedding in cycles of brake pad to be carried out by the test system.
